In order to promote cultural exchanges and development between China and Australia and promote the long and splendid Chinese culture overseas, with the support of the Australian government and after expert consultation and evaluation, in 2011, Based on the 52-chapter long classical fantasy mythological novel by Australian Chinese writer Luo Shan, the Sydney Chinese Dance Company has actively carried out basic preparations for adapting it into six large-scale classical dance dramas, “Tanghua Fairy”, such as the collection and arrangement of script text, plot development, scenes, classical music and modern music. At present, the costume design and booking production of more than ten flower fairies, emperors, generals and monsters have been basically completed.
The main story of “Tanghua Fairy” takes place in the Tang Dynasty of China. More than ten flower fairies came to the land of China from Baihuazhou. They are as beautiful as flowers, graceful as gods, and have super magical power. They have inherited many excellent traditional virtues, wisdom and moral character of Chinese women, and they are capable of both literary and military skills. They have a clear sense of love and hate, protect the weak, save lives and heal the wounded, subdue demons and monsters, and eliminate harm for the people.
This dance drama makes full use of the skills and dance vocabulary of Chinese classical, yoga and modern dance, and expresses the brilliance of truth, goodness and beauty in Chinese culture through the graceful dance postures of more than ten flower fairies, giving people positive, optimistic, beautiful imagination and expectations, inspiring sunshine, motivation and inspiration. This is the first time that overseas Chinese have put their own original large-scale dance on the stage, which contains the long and splendid Chinese cultural heritage. It is the wisdom and crystallization of collective creation, permeating the hard work and sweat of every member of the Sydney Chinese Dance Company.
