On the evening of June 1st, as a light drizzle continued to fall, people from all directions—both Chinese and Westerners—hurried with eager anticipation toward the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta. As the performance officially began, the curtain slowly rose, and the audience held their breath. Before them unfolded the breathtaking scene of Tai Chi Island’s Hundred Flowers Continent, where the sun shone brightly, a gentle breeze drifted, flowers bloomed in full splendor, and birds chirped melodiously. Nourished by millennia of rain and dew, ten flower fairies, just beginning to take human form, emerged. They swayed gracefully, their delicate waists moving in rhythm with the ethereal music that floated through the air and resonated in the audience’s ears. The heavens had bestowed upon them extraordinary divine powers, transforming them into stunningly beautiful flower fairies. At this moment, Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin, wandered through the Hundred Flowers Continent in a dreamlike vision and encountered the ten flower fairies. With both beauty and talent, skilled in both literature and martial arts, they traveled to the divine land of China, assisting the Tang Dynasty in subduing demons and monsters, saving lives, and aiding in disaster relief. Their heroic deeds vividly embodied the traditional virtues, wisdom, and moral character of Chinese women. Their awe-inspiring and moving stories shone with the brilliance of humanity.
The whole performance was compact and orderly, with climaxes one after another. The dance drama makes full use of Chinese classical dance, folk dance, modern dance, Tai Chi dance, yoga, sword dance, fan dance, silk dance, ballet and Chinese martial arts. It also integrates the famous traditional skills of face-changing and other various artistic expressions. The entire dance drama is full of passion and soul-stirring. It eulogizes the noble soul, beauty and fraternity. It is full of creativity and profound meaning. It transcends traditional and ordinary dance forms. It is a bold attempt and innovation. At this time, for the first time, overseas Chinese put their own original large-scale dance dramas that contained the long and splendid Chinese cultural heritage on the stage and presented them to Chinese and Western audiences in Australia. The performance ended, and the audience responded with enthusiastic and enthusiastic applause for more than ten minutes. Some audience members even couldn’t help but shout: “Come again, come again…” People lingered over and over again. The applause of the actors on the stage and the applause of the audience off the stage echoed together.
