The Dream of Dance (08/09/2012)

“Dancing Dream” is the first large-scale Chinese dance show in western Sydney. While inheriting and promoting traditional Chinese dance art, the performance also widely absorbs the essence of dance art from all over the world. It is a large-scale dance show that is innovative and will be performed twice in Penrith and Smithfield in western Sydney for the first time recently.

The Sydney Chinese Dance Company was founded in 2004 as a cultural exchange art group approved by the New South Wales government. Since its establishment, the group has attracted much attention for its superb artistic standards, professional spirit, and continuous innovation in dance art. It not only occupies a leading position among various art groups, but also shoulders the important task of cultural and artistic exchanges between Sydney Chinese and various Australian ethnic groups. Now with an eight-year history, the Sydney Chinese Dance Company is the strongest team in Sydney’s cultural and artistic circles. Its outstanding dancers have brought one top dance art performance after another to the people of Sydney.

Ms. Yuan Jing, Director of Sydney Chinese Dance Company, attended the community cabinet meeting held not long ago and met with the Minister of Multiculturalism. The significance of this meeting is that the dance art of Sydney Chinese Dance Company was brought to Sydney’s western suburbs for the first time, and a large-scale dance performance “Dancing Dream” was held in Penrith and Smithfield.

The upcoming Penrith District Dance Special will be held at the Penrith Club. The club is different from ordinary clubs in other districts. It is a well-equipped, luxurious and comfortable theater that can accommodate up to 1,000 people. It is professional and welcomes Chinese people from all walks of life and groups of all ethnic groups to watch the performance. In this “Dancing Dream” dance special, the audience can not only appreciate the charm of traditional Chinese dance art, but also appreciate the perfect reproduction of dance art from all over the world, including French dance, belly dance, Spanish dance, classical ballet “The Blue Danube” and refreshing modern dance. Its rigorous stage style, superb skills, costumes, lighting and stage design are magnificent, which can be said to be a rare visual feast. This performance is a cultural journey and cultural feast that cannot be missed for the young generation of Chinese Australians in promoting Chinese culture and displaying world culture.

In the eight years since the Sydney Chinese Dance Company was founded, it has achieved fruitful results. In 2006, the Sydney Chinese Dance Company held its first Chinese dance performance “Melody of Dance” at the Parramatta Riverside Theatre, filling the gap in Chinese dance in the Australian dance art world. It then returned to the audience with “Charm of Dance” at the Riverside Theatre. In 2008, the Sydney Chinese Dance Company was shocked by the Wenchuan earthquake and quickly organized a large-scale disaster relief charity performance. All the proceeds were donated to the compatriots affected by the disaster, which was well received by all walks of life in China and Australia. In the past three years, dance specials with different themes such as “Peacock Flying” and “Red Silk” have been staged in major clubs and theaters in Sydney. Since its establishment, the unremitting efforts of the Sydney Chinese Dance Company have not only enriched the lives of Chinese Australians, but also inherited and carried forward Chinese culture and art, allowing Chinese dance art to gain a foothold and prosper in Australia. It has made an indispensable contribution to the cultural exchange between China and Australia, and has great significance for the cultural inheritance of Chinese Australians.
